It’s that time of year again … I don’t specifically mean Christmas either. I mean, it’s that time of year that practically every author I know writes a Christmas novel, novella, is part of an anthology, etc. This isn’t a bad thing if you love all things Christmas and that includes the books.
Confession! I am not a fan of Christmas books. I actually dread this time of year because I struggle to read these gems that most readers love! I struggle to review them, I don’t take ARCs of them, I basically run the other way. I don’t even understand it myself but I just can’t get into them.
That’s not to say I hate all things Christmas, or that I hate the books or the writers. That’s strong words there. I don’t hate them, they just aren’t my cup of tea.
Things I do love about Christmas? Sweaters, hot chocolate, mint, mint anything! Christmas lights, fireplaces, snow, Christmas music, carolers, seeing the people I love, family, fudge, cakepops (Yes, I snuck that in there.), Christmas decorations, my house looking like the Griswolds moved in. I love Christmas shopping because I love to spoil the people in my life.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, things I dislike about Christmas. The Hallmark Channel. Yes, I know. Everyone wants to watch 90 million Christmas movies that all tend to have the same plot line just variations of it. Christmas movies, too. I know, I’m a Grinch. My mother has been recording every single one of them, someone save me.
It’s usually flu season, I can’t tell you how many times I missed Christmas night with the family because I ended up sick as a child.
The biggest kicker of them all is that while Christmas is supposed to be about spending time with the family, giving, being merry and bright, positivity, togetherness and so forth, have you ever been shopping this time of year? Yes. I really dislike interacting with people while Christmas shopping and I tend to feel an immense amount of compassion for holiday workers. People can be nasty.
These confessions really do make me wonder if I’m a big grump this time of year. I’m honestly not sure, but, in the spirit of the season, and to attempt to try, I want to reach out to my fellow book lovers.
What are you favorite Christmas novels? What series do you love that have a random Christmas book in them? Do you have Christmas book tag games you like? Have you participated in one? Give me some feed back. Throw book suggestions at my head.
Also, feel free to leave your Christmas confessions. What you love about Christmas, what you might dislike. Heck, what is your favorite Christmas beverage? (Mine is Christmas Tea by Stash. 🙂 It’s mint flavored, of course.)
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, all that jazz.
