Duncan Armstrong may be an NHL star, but he’s a country boy at heart. His ultimate fantasy is going home with the Stanley Cup, not a gold-digging airhead who aspires to be a trophy wife and nothing more. Newly single and hoping to enjoy a night out with his teammates, he ends up hitting it off with a down-to-earth waitress who’s a complete breath of fresh air—until Duncan learns that she’s a part-time model. He tries to forget about her, but their sizzling chemistry has him coming back for more.
Amber is working hard to put herself through school, and has zero interest in dating a professional athlete. She’s seen firsthand how fame and fortune can mess with their heads—her father’s brilliant football career ended in a firestorm of addiction and infidelity. So Duncan’s attentions immediately have her on the defensive. Still, there’s something different about him. And once she stops trying to freeze him out, irresistible temptation turns into all-consuming passion.
Kelly Jamieson’s novels have become my go-to books when I want a great sports romance. Not only are they well written, engaging and fun but she knows her hockey facts, and she knows them well. So of course when I had the chance to read Icing, the second novel in Ms. Jamieson’s Aces Hockey series, I leap at the chance. I was not in the least disappointed, and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.
Icing, itself is fantastic. I loved the amount of sports knowledge that went into this book. I actually believe you get a whole chapter of just a hockey game, but it is so fast paced that you feel as if you are there with the characters. You had a great plot, that was backed up by solid writing and amazing characters.
I loved Duncan from the get-go. In fact, I’d been waiting for his story since Misconduct, the first book in the series. I knew it was going to take a special kind of girl to capture him and keep him. Not that Amber wants him to begin with. Nope. She’s on the fence and leery of all men sports related. If I can say anything about Amber, I loved her backbone.
Again, amazing characters! I’m not sure I can stress that enough. The chemistry was also off the charts between these two without making you feel like it takes over the book. A perfect balance of sports, romance, love and plot. I couldn’t have asked for better! Kudos, Ms. Jamieson!
