H is for Hangover!
(By this, I mean Book Hangovers!)
Have you ever read a book that has completely wrecked you? You walk around in a daze after reading it for days. You can’t pick up another book, you can’t even focus on another book. It is like you’re just emotionally drained. Sort of like H’s graphic, you feel.. empty. (Yes, that was inntentional!) This is a real thing, and it is called a book hangover.
You’ll see memes about this all over the internet if you Google book hangover. The thing about these tends to be that it wasn’t because the book was bad. Not at all! It is usually because the book is so good, that ripping yourself from it, or it ending is like losing something important to you. It can be so emotionally jarring that you actualy feel lost. You’re listless and you wander about, not really knowing what to do next.
So because of our title, I’m going to give you my top three books, that have given me a book hangover in the last year and a half. Now, I can’t even tell you which hit me the hardest, and two of them made me down right ugly cry. One, not so bad, the other, I sobbed from about 5% into the book until the end. Yes, sobbed… If you can imagine, the book hangover from it, was insane. I still can’t write the book review because I tear up.
Amber’s Top Three Book Hangovers
Special thanks to the authors, by the way. I love that they can evoke that level of emotion with their writing. 😀
A Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole – This book wrecked me. Absolutely and completely. There are lines in it that I will remember forever, and when I think of them, I tear up. Hands down, one of the best books I’ve ever read. I can’t even recommend this one enough, but will have to warn you to keep tissues on hand.
Present Perfect by Alison G. Bailey – One of those books I couldn’t put down, I had to know what happened next. There is so much love in this book that the level of angst there makes it heart breaking at some points. You want to scream at these characters, and then you want to hug them. I had to set my Kindle down at one point in this book I was bawling my head off so hard. It isn’t a book I see around a lot, and that’s a bit disappointing because it is brilliant. If you’re looking for a great book, it’s currently on Kindle Unlimited.
#Heart by Cambria Hebert – Ahhh… so I didn’t bawl over this book, it was happy tears if I did. What hit me with this one was that it was the ending of one of my favorite series. It is always hard to close a chapter on something you love, let alone a full series you’re enamored with. Another one that I can’t recommend enough, but would tell you to start at the beginning. #Heart is NOT a standalone.
