★ MY REVIEW ★
Torch is the first novel in the Take It Off series by Cambria Hebert. It is a stand alone novel and told from dual first person point-of-views. I’m going to be honest, I wasn’t sure what I was getting into here. I’m a complete Cambria Hebert fan, but to date, I’d only read one of her other series. I was scared that I wasn’t going to like this one as much… but my mind has been set at ease. I loved it! I’m beginning to hold Cambria’s books to a higher standard, much like I do other of my favorite authors. Torch did not disappoint me at all and I was sort of meh about the synopsis.
What would you do if you randomly woke up in the middle of the night, drugged and tied to a chair? Not knowing how you got there, what was going on, or who you pissed off? Not to mention, you wake up just in time to see hooded shadow figure in the corner lighting a match and setting your whole world on fire. This is what happens to Katie, our heroine in Torch.
Katie’s a librarian whose got a love of books. She doesn’t have any family and has been alone for years, so she’s come to rely upon herself. I like to think she has backbone, because no where in any of this book, even when it got really bad, did I see her giving up. Her strength of character stood out to me. It made for a completely entertaining read.
Katie gets rescued from her blazing house by none other than Holt. The big, strong, and oh so sexy alpha male firefighter who has a heart of gold. I won’t tell you that these two have an instant love connection, because they don’t. In fact, that would have driven me nuts. What they do have is an extremely strong attraction to each other that may as well rival a five alarm fire. Things keep happening around Katie and you realize her life is in danger, but you also have a solid Holt standing right next to her, trying to protect her.
When I say you realize this, it’s because it unfolds slowly. While it unravels and you find out piece by piece and clue by clue, it adds to the suspense of it all. The timing and the pace are wonderful in that! By the time you get to the end of the book you may or may not think you’ve got it figured out. I thought I did, but there was a twist to it that I hadn’t expected.
Overall, five star book for me! I loved everything about it and I’m already going to tell you all to prepare yourselves, I’m reading the rest of the series and will be reviewing those too!
