★ SYNOPSIS ★
He’ll make her an offer she can’t refuse…
Actress Tess McKenzie is performing in the Tenth Circle of Showbiz Hell-dinner theater. All she really wants is to start a theater of her own. Then Tess receives an offer she can’t refuse. She’ll get her funding…if she pretends to be the fiancée to her nemesis, Texan property tycoon Hunter Dade. If she’s going to pull this off, she’ll need all the luck she can get. Break a leg, indeed.
On the verge of a big business deal, Hunter needs to hire a fiancée. He hasn’t quite forgiven Tess for ruining his wedding, but when their chemistry goes from combative to straight-up lust, the “no sex” clause in their mutually beneficial arrangement is tested. Which is a serious problem, because if Tess isn’t careful, she’ll go from breaking a leg to breaking her heart…

★ MY REVIEW ★
Even the Score is the first book in Kate Meader’s new Tall, Dark and Texan series. This book amused me practically from the very beginning. It’s one of those very well written, middle of the road books for me that I completely enjoy. If you’re looking for entertainment, it definitely does not and will not disappoint you.
From the get go, Tess had me cracking you. You meet here while she’s doing murder mystery dinner theater and having to prance around in a French maid costume.. that she hates. The job, because that’s exactly what it is for the struggling actress, is a way to make ends meet so that she can save money to open her own theater company. What she doesn’t expect is to practically fall on her teetering heels into the hands of a man who hates her, and blames all his failings from a year before on her.
Hunter wants the business deal he’s working on to go through, but he also wants Tess. (Not that he’ll come out and admit it. He’s still blaming her for ruining his wedding day.) So he offers her a deal of his own, even has a contract drawn up. She plays his fiancee for one weekend, and he’ll fund her new theater. He also want revenge though, and what better way to get that then to make Tess want him?
“Revenge was a dish best served in bed – And Tess McKenzie was about to get a five-course meal.” – Hunter, Even the Score by Kate Meader
Things are never quite so simple however because these who are like fire and ice. They’ve been arguing since practically the moment they met and it’s electric. People around them don’t know if they are going to come to blows half the time, or if they should grab a hose. Yeah.. these two are hot, and Hunter is mad at Tess for all the wrong reasons, he just doesn’t know it.
” The air snap-crackled-popped between them.” – Even the Score by Kate Meader
The dynamic between these hero and heroine is pretty on point. I also liked the co-stars, a lot. Especially Hunter’s business partners and friends. Oh and Buffy with her big Texas hair. 😉 I can’t pinpoint anything I didn’t like about the book, the story and plot are great. I’m afraid to share too much about it because it’ll give away far too many spoilers. That being said, I’m going to leave it here and just say I would recommend this book to anyone. If you love romance, you will like this story.
